Acclaimed Songwriter BloodPop Launches New Gaming Venture GenPop
Renowned songwriter and producer Michael 'BloodPop' Tucker, known for collaborations with Lady Gaga and Beyoncé, has partnered to establish a new game development studio called GenPop Interactive. Tucker co-founded the studio with Aubrey Tennant, formerly a producer at Bandai Namco and Hyper Hippo, with Tucker serving as CEO and Tennant as COO. The fully remote studio operates with a team of 25 members spread across five countries, comprising developers who have previously worked on notable titles such as Red Dead Redemption 2, Cyberpunk 2077, Halo Infinite, League of Legends, and The Sims. Prior to its launch, the company secured $6.5 million in seed funding, led by Makers Fund and supplemented by investments from 1up Ventures and Good Smile Company. GenPop aims to develop AAA games that 'push the boundaries of music, fashion, and gaming culture.' The studio's inaugural project is a third-person shooter featuring innovative movement and combat mechanics. Tucker noted, 'In an era where established studios often prioritize low-risk re-releases that capitalize on nostalgia, Gen-Z craves new intellectual properties that resonate with them and leave a lasting impact on their generation.' He further emphasized, 'Major studios have become complacent, relying on reviving old IP. Our mission is not only to create exceptional games but also to nurture the next generation of popular culture.' Tennant added, 'We are confident in our unique position to revolutionize the shooter genre with a dynamic social world that evolves based on community feedback. We look forward to sharing our vision with a wider audience in the coming months.'
