Japanese Monthly Sales Crown PlayStation 5 as Top Console for the First Time

For the first time, the PlayStation 5 has emerged as the top-selling console in Japan, surpassing the long-reigning Nintendo Switch. According to sales data from Famitsu, covering the period from January 30 to February 26, the PS5 sold an impressive 367,000 units over four weeks. In contrast, the Nintendo Switch, including its standard, Lite, and OLED models, sold 221,000 units in February. Nintendo, however, led the pack in terms of game sales, with 510,000 boxed units sold, outpacing Square Enix and Warner Bros Games. Notably, nearly 40% of Nintendo's boxed game sales came from the newly released Kirby: Return To Dream Land DX, which debuted as the month's best-selling title with 189,031 units sold. The PlayStation 5 version of Hogwarts Legacy came in second, selling 126,086 units, followed by Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, which combined sold 107,506 units. Octopath Traveler 2 also made a strong debut as the month's third biggest new release and fifth overall best seller, with 53,995 units sold. In terms of physical game units sold, Nintendo claimed the largest share at 34.5%, with Square Enix and WB Games following at 11% and 8.6%, respectively.
