Hogwarts Legacy Secures Fifth Consecutive Number One Spot, Overtakes Elden Ring's Sales
Warner Bros' smash hit Hogwarts Legacy has maintained its top position in the UK boxed charts for another week, despite experiencing a 31% decline in sales. The game has also topped the weekly digital charts. Notably, after just five weeks, Hogwarts Legacy has surpassed Elden Ring's lifetime sales in the UK, including both digital and physical copies. Elden Ring was a major hit last year, with sales only surpassed by FIFA 23, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, GTA 5, and LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga by the end of 2022. Hogwarts Legacy is expected to surpass LEGO Star Wars' sales once the digital data is released later this week. The game's success is expected to continue, with upcoming releases on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch in May and June, potentially allowing it to catch up with Call of Duty's sales. The past week saw a lack of new game releases, resulting in significant changes to the charts. Metroid Prime Remastered, last week's highest-charting new title, dropped from second to fourth place with a substantial 79% decline in sales. Other recent releases, such as Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty, Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, Octopath Traveler 2, and Atomic Heart, also experienced significant sales drops, falling to 33rd, 11th, 21st, and 38th places, respectively. Meanwhile, promotions for Mario games on Mario Day (March 10th) led to increased sales, with Mario Kart 8: Deluxe rising to third place after a 4% sales increase, Super Mario Odyssey jumping 13 places to 26th with a 55% sales boost, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury moving up nine places to 20th with a 13% sales increase. Additionally, Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope continued its steady sales growth, rising to 16th place after a 16% improvement in sales, driven by promotions and a new DLC expansion.
