UK Gaming Market Sees Significant Surge in PS5 Sales and Hogwarts Legacy Success
In a notable turn of events, the UK games market experienced a substantial boost in February, primarily driven by the success of Hogwarts Legacy and the PlayStation 5. Approximately 2.8 million console and PC games were sold across the UK during this period, marking an 11% increase from the previous year. Hogwarts Legacy emerged as the top-selling game of the month, with its launch sales exceeding those of Elden Ring by 100% in the same period last year. The game has quickly become the sixth best-selling title over the past 12 months. The UK gaming market also witnessed a significant surge in PS5 sales, which increased by 316% compared to the same period last year, and 27% from January. In contrast, Xbox sales saw a 21% increase from January, while Nintendo Switch sales declined by 15% from the previous month and 29% from the same time last year. The DualSense Edge controller also made a notable debut, becoming the fourth-largest premium controller launch of all time, with an average selling price of £208.
