EA Cuts 200 QA Testers from Apex Legends Team

Over 200 quality assurance staff members, primarily tasked with testing Apex Legends, have lost their jobs. According to Kotaku, EA's office in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, has dissolved its quality assurance team. The layoffs were announced during an unexpected, mandatory meeting with the contract firm, Magnit Global. Full-time supervisors who were part of the testing team will receive a 60-day severance package. An EA spokesperson stated, "Game testing is crucial for providing the best player experiences. As part of our global strategy, we are redistributing our Apex Legends testing team and ending the centralized testing in Baton Rouge, which affects services provided by our external partner." This move does not affect the operational status of EA's Baton Rouge studio. The layoffs come a month after the announcement that Apex Legends Mobile would be discontinued on May 1. The gaming industry has seen several layoffs this year, including those at Wizards of the Coast, Ubisoft, and Netease. Additionally, Unity and Blizzard have also reduced their workforces, with Microsoft cutting 10,000 jobs, affecting studios like Bethesda Game Studios and 343 Industries.
