National Videogame Museum Staff Barred from Premises by Landlord

The UK-based National Videogame Museum experienced an unexpected disruption on Monday when its staff found themselves locked out of the premises. The museum, currently situated within Sheffield's Castle House building, received an email notification regarding the closure. The British Games Institute, which operates the museum, has been impacted by the lockout. The issue stems from a dispute between the building's landlord, Kollider, and the superior landlord, Northpoint, affecting all Castle House tenants. According to a museum source, "We've been unfairly locked out and prevented from operating. Our locks were changed by Northpoint, who have taken control of our unit from Kollider, without any fault on our part." The British Games Institute stated, "As a charity, we require time for our trustee board to review and ensure that any new agreement is sound before proceeding." The museum's co-CEOs, Cat Powell and John O'Shea, expressed optimism about resolving the issue with Northpoint, enabling the museum to resume normal operations. The public and schools will be notified if their bookings are affected.
