Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Sequel Reportedly Scheduled for 2023 Release

Following an update from an Activision Blizzard spokesperson, it has been confirmed that a premium Call of Duty title will be released in 2023. According to reports, Activision Blizzard is set to launch a new Call of Duty game later this year, which is a follow-up to 2022's Modern Warfare 2. Initially, it was reported that there would be no Call of Duty release in 2023, as the company took time to reassess its approach to the series. However, in its last two earnings releases, Activision Blizzard stated that a premium title would be released in the usual autumn window. Sources claim that the 2023 game was originally intended as an expansion for Modern Warfare 2 but has since been developed into a standalone, full-price release. The new title is expected to carry over multiplayer maps and modes from the 2022 release, although this may change before launch. Sledgehammer Games will be developing the 2023 title, marking a departure from the traditional development pattern where only Infinity Ward handled Modern Warfare games. The next title from Treyarch, the third studio responsible for the bulk of Call of Duty development, is still on track for release in 2024, following a reported delay from last year. With Modern Warfare 2 being the best-selling game of 2022 and the biggest launch in the series' history, there are concerns that the 2023 title may be on a tight schedule, potentially leading to a challenging development period for staff.
