Shinji Mikami to Depart Tango Gameworks

Shinji Mikami, the founder and CEO of Tango Gameworks, has announced his decision to leave the studio behind The Evil Within. This news was initially reported by True Achievements and subsequently confirmed by Bethesda. In an email to the company, Todd Vaughn, senior vice president of development at Bethesda, stated: "Shinji Mikami, our studio head, has chosen to leave Tango Gameworks in the coming months. Over the past 12 years, Mikami has been a driving creative force and a supportive mentor to young developers, contributing to the development of the Evil Within series, Ghostwire: Tokyo, and Hi-Fi Rush." Bethesda expressed their well-wishes to Mikami in a statement, saying: "We wish him all the best for the future and are excited about the prospects for the talented team at Tango." Mikami founded Tango Gameworks in 2010, following a successful stint at Capcom and a brief period at PlatinumGames. As a seasoned producer, he directed the original Resident Evil and was involved in the franchise until the release of Resident Evil 4 in 2005. After establishing Tango Gameworks, the studio was acquired by ZeniMax in October 2010, and later, Microsoft purchased Bethesda's parent company in 2020 for $7.5 billion. The studio's debut title, The Evil Within, was released in 2014 under Mikami's direction, followed by The Evil Within 2 in 2017 and Ghostwire: Tokyo in 2022. Most recently, Tango Gameworks launched Hi-Fi Rush, which was announced and released at the Xbox and Bethesda Developer Direct Showcase last month.
