Genshin Impact Publisher Initiates Lawsuit Against Information Leakers
Cognosphere, the subsidiary of MiHoYo responsible for publishing Genshin Impact, has launched a lawsuit against individuals leaking confidential information about the game. According to Axios, a California court has issued subpoenas to reveal the identities, IP addresses, and phone numbers of Twitter users behind the accounts Merlin Impact, Genshin World, and XWides, who have shared unreleased content possibly obtained from test versions of the game. This action follows a month of heightened legal activity by Cognosphere to combat information leaks. In January, the company filed multiple DMCA subpoenas against groups and individuals involved in leaking unreleased details about Genshin Impact, as reported by TorrentFreak. Cognosphere is not the only gaming company to take such measures, as Epic Games previously sued a tester for leaking Fortnite Chapter 2 details, seeking over $85,000 in damages, and the Pokémon Company settled a lawsuit against leakers of Pokémon Sword and Shield for $150,000 in damages and fees per defendant.
