Tencent Spearheads $10 Million Investment in Quell, a Fitness Gaming Developer
Quell, a pioneering developer of fitness-focused games, has successfully secured $10 million in funding through a Series A investment round, with Tencent at the helm. Additional support was provided by prominent investors, including Khosla Ventures, Heartcore Capital, Social Impact Capital, and Naval Ravikant. The newly acquired funds will be allocated towards the development and launch of Quell's debut title, Shardfall, as well as the large-scale production of its revolutionary fitness hardware, known as Impact. This cutting-edge system comprises specialized controllers equipped with haptic sensors, designed to integrate seamlessly with resistance training equipment. Impact is slated for release later this year, coinciding with the launch of Shardfall, with Quell's CEO, Cameron Brookhouse, announcing that the system has already garnered an impressive 10,000 pre-orders. The starting price for bundles that include the hardware and the fighting game is set at $250. Dr. Ling Ge, Tencent's chief European representative and a member of Quell's board, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting the vast potential of the fitness gaming sector and Quell's capacity to propel it into the mainstream. Previously, Quell had raised $5.6 million in a seed funding round in December 2020, with notable participants including Y Combinator, JamJar Investments, and Twitch co-founders Emmett Shear and Kevin Lin.
