UK Gaming Market Sees PS5 Sales Boost in January, Despite Decline in Game Sales

The UK gaming market witnessed the sale of 2.24 million video games in January, according to the latest data from GSD. This figure encompasses both physical games and digital downloads from major publishers. Although sales have dipped by 4.4% compared to the previous year, the absence of a significant game release, such as Pokémon Legends: Arceus, has contributed to this decline. FIFA 23 topped the charts, with sales surpassing those of FIFA 22 in the same period last year. Other notable performers include GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, which saw increased sales. The Dead Space remake debuted at number six, despite only being on sale for a few days. In terms of console sales, the PS5 saw a significant surge, with a 98% increase in sales compared to January last year. The God of War Ragnarok editions were a major contributor to this growth, accounting for 55% of PS5 sales. The Nintendo Switch, on the other hand, experienced a slowdown in sales as it approaches its sixth anniversary.
