Pricing for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Revealed at $70
Nintendo has confirmed that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be priced at $69.99. Following recent rumors about the game's cost, the company disclosed this information after the latest Nintendo Direct. Notably, this marks the first time a top-tier first-party title for the Nintendo Switch has exceeded the traditional $59.99 price point. In a statement to Game Informer, Nintendo indicated that price increases may be considered on a case-by-case basis, saying: "We determine the suggested retail price for any Nintendo product on an individual basis." This shift comes as several AAA titles have adopted a $70 price point since the launch of the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. The trend began with Take-Two's announcement of NBA 2K21's $70 price tag in July 2020, followed by similar moves from Activision, Sony, and others. According to Rob Fahey, contributing editor at GamesIndustry.biz, 15 years of static $60 pricing has not benefited either gamers or game developers. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is scheduled to release on May 12, 2023, for the Nintendo Switch.
