Screen Australia Invests $1 Million in 11 Upcoming Games
Screen Australia has revealed plans to provide funding of AU$1.5 million ($1 million) to support the development of 11 games through its Games: Expansion Pack Fund. This initiative focuses on supporting emerging and smaller independent game studios with project budgets under AU$500,000 ($348,000). The list of funded titles includes Bilkins' Folly from Webbysoft, Copycat by Spoonful of Wonder, Ghost Cam from Arch Rebels, and Misc. A Tiny Tale by Tinyware Games. This announcement comes on the heels of the government's launch of Revive, a new cultural policy aimed at boosting the creative sectors, including film, television, and music, with an additional AU$12 million ($8.36 million) allocated over four years to support Australian game developers. According to Screen Australia's head of online, Lee Naimo, "The recent unveiling of Revive has paved the way for us to back this diverse array of games from across Australia, each offering unique Aussie narratives." In 2022, the Games: Expansion Pack fund previously contributed AU$4 million ($2.8 million) to independent game creators.
