UKIE has joined forces with Discord and GameFlex to unveil the Go‑To‑Market Academy, a dedicated business‑focused programme designed to bolster independent game studios operating out of the United Kingdom. This collaborative effort recognises that many promising indie projects stumble not because of a lack of creative vision, but due to insufficient guidance on how to reach and retain an audience in today’s crowded marketplace.

The Academy’s core mission is to arm early‑stage developers with a comprehensive toolkit for constructing robust go‑to‑market strategies and cultivating sustainable, engaged communities around their titles. Over the course of the programme, participants will explore six meticulously structured online modules.

These modules cover a range of essential topics, including diagnostic assessments to pinpoint a studio’s current position, deep‑dive insights into market trends, the formulation of a coherent marketing strategy, the practicalities of executing multi‑channel campaigns, leveraging Discord as a primary hub for community interaction, and the development of a distinctive studio brand identity. To enrich the learning experience, a roster of seasoned industry guest speakers will share real‑world case studies, best practices, and insider tips. Selection for the Academy is competitive, with only ten to twelve studios accepted per cohort. Chosen teams will commence their journey with a face‑to‑face kickoff session held at EGX during the MCM Comic Con event in London next month.

This initial gathering is intended to foster networking, set expectations, and provide hands‑on guidance from the programme’s mentors. Following the in‑person launch, the curriculum will shift to a series of virtual workshops scheduled throughout November and early December, allowing participants to work at a manageable pace while still receiving continuous support. The culmination of the Academy will be another live event, where each studio will present a fully‑fleshed go‑to‑market plan that they have developed as part of a shared case study throughout the duration of the course.

These presentations will not only showcase the strategic frameworks each team has built but also provide a platform for peer feedback, potential investor interest, and media exposure. Studios interested in applying can submit their proposals via the provided application link, with the deadline set for 30 September 2026. The application process asks for details about the studio’s current projects, target audience, and specific challenges they hope to address through the Academy.

"Go‑to‑market planning is where a lot of promising games fall down, not because studios lack good ideas, but because they haven't had the time or support to build the audience and community that gives those ideas a chance to flourish," explained Nick Poole, CEO of UKIE. "The Go‑To‑Market Academy gives indie studios the space to work through that properly, with direct input from Discord on a platform that’s become central to how games communities actually form and grow." Mauro Sanna, Discord’s Director of Public Policy for EMEA, echoed this sentiment, stating: "The UK's indie games scene is full of talent and opportunity, and we're delighted to partner with UKIE to help it thrive. We're excited to help this group of UK developers learn how to make the most of Discord to connect with our highly engaged gaming audience, build communities and grow their games." Beyond the core curriculum, the Academy will also provide participants with access to a private Discord server where they can interact with mentors, share progress updates, and receive real‑time feedback.

This digital hub is intended to simulate the very community‑building techniques the programme teaches, giving studios a living laboratory for testing engagement strategies, running beta tests, and gathering player insights. Moreover, the partnership with GameFlex adds an extra layer of expertise in monetisation and player retention.

Studios will receive guidance on designing in‑game economies, implementing ethical monetisation models, and analysing player behaviour data to inform iterative improvements. By integrating these commercial considerations early in the development cycle, indie teams can avoid common pitfalls that often lead to unsustainable revenue streams. The Academy’s emphasis on branding will also help studios differentiate themselves in a saturated market.

Workshops will cover visual identity, tone of voice, storytelling techniques, and the creation of compelling press kits. Participants will leave the programme with a polished brand toolkit that can be leveraged across social media, press releases, and store listings. In summary, the Go‑To‑Market Academy represents a holistic approach to indie game success, combining strategic planning, community management, branding, and monetisation under one roof. By offering a blend of in‑person networking, online instruction, and ongoing mentorship, UKIE, Discord, and GameFlex aim to empower the next generation of British indie developers to launch their games with confidence, reach wider audiences, and build the lasting communities that are essential for long‑term growth.
