Nintendo Aims to Boost Switch Production in 2023

According to reports, Nintendo is gearing up to increase production of its Switch console in the upcoming fiscal year. Sources familiar with the matter have revealed to Bloomberg that the company has informed its suppliers and assembly partners of its plans to manufacture a higher number of units compared to the current financial year, although no specific target has been disclosed. This development comes after Nintendo revised its shipment forecast downwards from 21 million units to 19 million in November, citing difficulties in securing components, particularly semi-conductors. However, the company now believes that these issues have been resolved, paving the way for increased production. It is worth noting that the company may reassess its plans if demand drops, but the console's struggles have been largely attributed to supply constraints rather than waning demand. The release of high-profile titles, such as The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, is expected to provide a significant boost to Switch sales. Increasing production at this stage in the console's lifecycle is an unusual move, suggesting that the Switch will continue to be supported for at least another year, which in turn reduces the likelihood of a successor being released in the near future. If Nintendo meets its target of 19 million units in the current fiscal year and exceeds it in the next, the Switch will be closing in on the 150 million sales milestone, a feat only achieved by the PlayStation 2, with the Nintendo DS slightly ahead at 154 million.
