Games Done Quick Founder Mike Uyama Steps Down After 13 Years
The renowned speed running organization, Games Done Quick, has revealed that its founder, Mike Uyama, will be leaving the organization. Since its inception in 2010, Uyama has been instrumental in growing the event, which has amassed over $41 million in charitable donations to date. Matt Merkle, the current director of operations, will succeed Uyama as the owner and managing director. Reflecting on his journey, Uyama stated, "I've witnessed Games Done Quick evolve from a humble volunteer-driven effort to the thriving entity it is today." He expressed gratitude to Merkle and the speedrunning community for their support, acknowledging that their contributions were pivotal to the organization's growth and diversification. Uyama is set to take a break before embarking on his next venture, with his final event being Awesome Games Done Quick Online 2023, scheduled to take place from January 8 to 15.
