Gamescom 2026 proved to be a landmark event for the global video‑game sector, welcoming a total of 368,000 visitors hailing from 131 different countries. This figure represents a healthy 6 percent increase compared with the previous year’s attendance, underscoring the show’s growing appeal among both casual fans and industry professionals.

The exhibition floor was even more bustling than before, with 1,743 companies representing 66 nations setting up booths and displays. This roster of exhibitors grew by 11 percent over the 2025 show, highlighting the event’s expanding magnetism for businesses seeking to reach an international audience.

International participants made up a striking 72 percent of the total exhibitor base, and the presence of 48 national pavilions—covering 41 distinct countries—further emphasized Gamescom’s status as a truly global gathering. Among the nations showing the most robust growth were Brazil, Canada and the United States.

These markets contributed significantly to the surge in trade visitors, with more than 36,000 industry‑focused attendees taking part. Roughly half of these trade visitors travelled from outside Germany, illustrating the event’s importance as a cross‑border networking hub.

The ancillary conference, Gamescom Dev, also experienced notable expansion. Attendance at the developer‑focused programme rose 15 percent, reaching 6,200 participants. The conference, which preceded the main exhibition, featured an impressive lineup of 397 speakers who delivered content across 238 individual sessions spread over 18 distinct stages. In total, more than 2,500 companies from 95 countries were represented at Gamescom Dev and its accompanying indie expo, supplemented by 57 partners and additional exhibitors who helped round out the programme.

GamesIndustry.biz conducted an interview with Frederik Hammes, the managing director of Gamescom Dev, to discuss the outcomes of this year’s Gamescom Dev survey. The findings highlighted smaller development studios as the most promising source of growth within the broader games market, suggesting that indie and mid‑size creators will play an increasingly pivotal role in shaping industry trends.

Digital engagement around Gamescom continued to break records. By Saturday evening, the event’s online content had amassed more than 624 million global views. The Opening Night Live broadcast alone attracted 78 million viewers, while the Gamescom Awesome Indies Show reached over 302 000 viewers—a staggering increase of more than 670 percent compared with previous years. The digital community adventure known as Gamescom Epix generated 6.2 million page views, up roughly 9 percent from the prior edition, indicating sustained interest in the event’s online extensions.

"In 2026, Gamescom delivered an impressive statement about its role as the central platform for the international games industry," said Felix Falk, managing director of the German Games Industry Association. "Many of last year's record figures were surpassed, especially in terms of international participation and the number of exhibitors. The drive for the future can be felt here – it’s what again propels the industry forward this year despite the challenges – and what makes the Gamescom atmosphere so unique." Gerald Böse, president and chief executive officer of Koelnmesse, echoed this sentiment: "Gamescom brings people from all over the world together, combining the economic and social significance of games on a scale like no other.

This was an extremely successful Gamescom, and we are delighted by the event's strong international character. It shows Gamescom's ever‑growing importance as the leading platform for everyone who plays, develops and creates games." Looking ahead, the organizers have already set dates for the next edition.

Gamescom 2027 is scheduled to run from August 25 to 29, with the Gamescom Dev conference slated for August 23 to 24. The continued upward trajectory in attendance, exhibitor numbers, and digital reach suggests that the show will maintain its position as the premier gathering for the worldwide gaming community, offering unparalleled opportunities for networking, showcasing new titles, and discussing the future direction of the industry.
