Microsoft Faces Lawsuit from Gamers Over Activision Acquisition

A recent lawsuit filed in a California court is attempting to thwart Microsoft's planned $69 million takeover of Activision Blizzard. The lawsuit, brought by 10 individuals from California, New Mexico, and New Jersey, cites antitrust concerns as the primary reason for seeking an injunction against the deal. According to the complaint, Microsoft's acquisition would grant the company disproportionate influence in the gaming industry, potentially leading to reduced competition, higher prices, and decreased consumer choice. The plaintiffs' attorney, Joseph Saveri, emphasized the need to safeguard the market against mergers that could harm consumers. This lawsuit follows a similar action taken by the Federal Trade Commission earlier this month, which also aims to block the acquisition due to concerns that Microsoft could stifle competition in the gaming console and cloud gaming markets. Microsoft has expressed confidence in its position and looks forward to presenting its case in court.
