Frontier Developments announced a landmark set of financial results in its June trade update, highlighting a dramatic improvement in profitability and revenue generation across its portfolio. The company reported that adjusted operating profit for the fiscal year 2026 climbed 62 percent, reaching a record‑high £21.4 million – the strongest performance ever recorded by the studio since its inception. This surge was driven by a combination of strong market demand for its flagship titles, rigorous expense management, and the benefit of larger tax and expenditure credits that the firm was able to secure during the year. When the adjusted operating profit figure is stripped of a one‑off £3.9 million windfall that stemmed from the sale of publishing rights in the prior financial year, the underlying growth becomes even more impressive.

Even without that exceptional item, the adjusted operating profit more than doubled on a year‑over‑year basis, underscoring the durability of Frontier’s core business model and the effectiveness of its strategic initiatives. Revenue also posted a healthy increase, climbing 16 percent to £104.8 million.

The bulk of this top‑line expansion was attributed to continued strong sales of Jurassic World Evolution 3, as well as sustained demand for the beloved Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo franchises. These titles have not only delivered solid unit sales but have also generated significant ongoing revenue through downloadable content, expansions, and in‑game microtransactions, all of which contribute to a more resilient earnings stream. Operating profit, which includes all operating expenses and one‑off items, rose an even steeper 97 percent to £25.0 million. Frontier explained that this jump reflected both solid underlying trading performance and a transitional tax credit of £4.4 million that was recognized in the period.

The company emphasized that the tax credit was a temporary boost, but that the underlying operating performance – driven by higher sales, efficient production pipelines, and disciplined cost control – would continue to support strong profitability going forward. In addition to the financial highlights, Frontier disclosed several notable leadership changes.

Dan Lazarides was appointed chief marketing officer in the previous month, bringing fresh perspective to the studio’s brand and community outreach efforts. Meanwhile, founder and long‑time president David Braben announced that he will transition to a non‑executive director role on 1 October 2026, while retaining his title as president and remaining actively involved in the company’s strategic direction. Braben expressed confidence in the next generation of leadership, particularly CEO Jo Cooke, who has been steering the company through a period of rapid growth and diversification. Strategically, Frontier is expanding its development pipeline through a newly signed agreement with Disney.

The partnership will see Frontier develop and publish a new title that leverages Disney’s extensive intellectual property portfolio, opening a fresh revenue channel and broadening the studio’s audience reach. Looking ahead to the product calendar, the company confirmed that Planet Zoo 2 is slated for release on 13 October 2026. The sequel is expected to build on the original’s success by introducing deeper simulation mechanics, expanded wildlife ecosystems, and enhanced multiplayer features.

Additionally, a Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch game is slated for launch before the close of FY27, further diversifying Frontier’s genre offerings and tapping into the passionate tabletop‑gaming community. Frontier also highlighted progress on its long‑term content‑management‑system (CMS) strategy.

The studio is currently developing a new CMS‑based game built around its own intellectual property, a project that is "in full development and on track" according to internal sources. The goal of the CMS initiative is to produce an average of one new CMS title each year, providing a steady stream of fresh content that can be efficiently updated and expanded over time, thereby extending the lifecycle of each game and deepening player engagement.

CEO Jo Cooke summed up the year’s achievements, stating: "FY26 was a landmark year for Frontier. We delivered record financial performance, demonstrated the strength of our CMS strategy, and continued to invest in the world‑class franchises our players love, supporting vibrant communities and long‑term engagement across our portfolio. With a strong balance sheet, a talented team, and an exciting roadmap ahead, we are well positioned to deliver sustainable growth, enduring player value, and long‑term returns for our stakeholders." President David Braben added his perspective, noting: "I am immensely proud of what our talented teams have achieved together since I founded Frontier in 1994, and excited about the opportunities ahead.

I have tremendous confidence in Jo as CEO to build on Frontier's strong foundations and deliver long‑term success, together with the excellent leadership team. This transition allows me to concentrate on what I can do to help that journey, including oversight of our games, and I look forward to continuing to support Frontier and Jo in the years to come."
