US Gaming Spending Reaches $6.3 Billion in November, Driven by PS5 and Modern Warfare 2

The US gaming market experienced a significant surge in November, with total spending exceeding $6 billion, marking a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2021. This growth was primarily fueled by a substantial rise in hardware sales, driven by the increased availability of PlayStation 5 consoles. According to the latest data from The NPD Group, hardware sales saw a 45% year-over-year increase, while software sales declined by 5%. The top-selling console for the month was the PS5, followed by the Nintendo Switch. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 maintained its position as the best-selling game for the second consecutive month, outselling popular titles such as God of War: Ragnarok and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. As a result, Call of Duty has become the highest-selling game of 2022 so far. Meanwhile, accessories spending witnessed a 10% increase, with a notable rise in non-mobile subscriptions and premium downloads on console. The year-to-date total spending has reached $49 billion, although this represents a 6% decline compared to 2021.
