UK Gaming Market Sees November Decline Despite Strong Showings from Modern Warfare 2 and God of War Ragnarok

The UK gaming market experienced a 7.3% decline in sales during November, with approximately 4.3 million games sold. This decrease is partly attributed to the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in October, as opposed to its November launch the previous year. Despite this, Modern Warfare 2 maintained its top position in the charts, nearly surpassing the lifetime sales of its predecessor, Call of Duty: Vanguard, in just four weeks. God of War Ragnarok from Sony followed closely, boasting a 44% increase in sales compared to its 2018 counterpart. The Pokémon Scarlet and Violet games also performed well, potentially ranking second if digital sales data were available. Other notable releases included Football Manager 2023 and Sonic Frontiers, with the former experiencing a 30% decline in sales. The Nintendo Switch dominated console sales, driven by a 175% surge in sales and the release of a special edition Switch OLED. Xbox Series S and X came in second, while the PS5 saw a 71% increase in sales due to the release of God of War Ragnarok. Accessories, particularly controllers, witnessed significant sales, with the PS5's DualSense White controller leading the pack.
