Pokémon Scarlet and Violet Achieves Record-Breaking Launch in the UK

The recent launch of Pokémon Scarlet and Violet in the UK has yielded impressive sales figures, making it the largest boxed game release of the year. With a 4% increase in opening week sales compared to FIFA 23, it has secured the top spot. In terms of units sold, it ranks as the second most successful Pokémon launch of all time, surpassed only by Pokémon Sun and Moon on the 3DS. Notably, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet generated more revenue during its launch week than Sun and Moon, with an average selling price of £48 compared to £35 for the latter. The Violet version accounted for 52% of sales, while Scarlet made up 42%, and the double pack comprised 6%. The game's first-week sales exceeded those of the previous 'new generation' Pokémon release, Sword and Shield, by 25%. The launch also led to a significant boost in Switch console sales, with a 62% increase in hardware sales, primarily driven by the OLED model.
