Thunderful Expands Portfolio with Acquisition of Jumpship, Developer of Somerville
In a significant move, Swedish game publisher Thunderful has finalized the acquisition of UK-based indie game studio Jumpship for an undisclosed amount. The acquisition coincides with the highly anticipated launch of Somerville, Jumpship's debut title. Founded in 2017 by Chris Olsen and Dino Patti, Jumpship has been working on developing Somerville as a key IP, with Patti, formerly CEO and co-founder of Playdead, contributing his expertise. Following the acquisition, Patti will continue in his role at Jumpship while also serving as a strategic advisor to Thunderful Games. Jumpship will retain its creative independence, similar to Thunderful's other studios. This acquisition marks Thunderful's tenth to date and its first under the leadership of new CEO Anders Maiqvist. Previous acquisitions include Headup, Coatsink Software, and Robot Teddy. According to Agostino Simonetta, Chief Gaming Officer at Thunderful Games, 'Jumpship's ability to generate significant interest with its first title demonstrates the team's profound artistic vision.' Simonetta added, 'Enhancing our diverse talent roster under the Thunderful Studios umbrella is crucial to our strategy of building robust internal IPs. We are excited to support Jumpship in leveraging their skills to create impactful, narrative-driven experiences as part of the Thunderful family.'
