Kabam Reduces Workforce by 7%
A significant restructuring has taken place at Kabam, a prominent mobile game publisher, resulting in the loss of around 35 jobs. According to reports by TechCrunch, the layoffs, which account for roughly 7% of Kabam's total workforce of 500 employees, were announced to the affected staff earlier this week. Kabam is renowned for its popular mobile games, including Marvel Contest of Champions and Disney Mirrorverse, and operates from its headquarters in Vancouver, with additional studios and offices in various locations such as Los Angeles, San Francisco, Montreal, and Charlottetown, Austin, although it is unclear which specific locations have been impacted. In a statement to TechCrunch, a Kabam spokesperson explained, "Following a review of our strategic priorities, we have decided to adjust our resource allocation to better align with our objectives." The spokesperson added, "While we will continue to recruit talent in key areas, unfortunately, this adjustment necessitates a reduction of our workforce by approximately 7%. We appreciate the contributions of the departing employees and are providing support during this transition." This development comes after Kabam's parent company, Netmarble, merged its North American operations with Kabam earlier this year, having acquired the Vancouver-based studio in 2017. Kabam is not alone in its restructuring efforts, as several tech and gaming companies, including Microsoft and Meta, have also implemented significant layoffs in recent weeks.
