EA Abandons Project CARS Series

Electronic Arts has decided to discontinue the Project CARS series, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz. The series, which was developed by Slightly Mad Studios and first launched in 2015, will no longer receive further development or investment from EA. The decision was made after evaluating the series' potential following EA's acquisition of Codemasters. As a result, staff working on Project CARS will be relocated to suitable positions within EA's racing portfolio or other departments where feasible. This move is part of EA's strategy to focus on its core strengths in racing games, including licensed intellectual properties and open-world experiences, as well as expanding its franchises to incorporate social features and long-term live services that cater to global communities. EA aims to provide support to affected employees during this transition. The decision to abandon Project CARS comes after Slightly Mad Studios announced earlier this year that the first two games in the series would be delisted due to expiring licenses. The series consisted of three main titles, with the most recent one, Project CARS 3, receiving poor reviews. A mobile spin-off, Project CARS Go, was also released in 2021.
