Gaming Investments Reach $2.2 Billion in Q3
According to a recent report by Digital Development Management, the total investment in the video game sector for Q3 2022 was $2.2 billion, marking a 55% year-over-year decline across 156 deals. Notably, investments in blockchain gaming accounted for 63% of the quarter's total value, amounting to $1.4 billion. The overall value of M&A transactions for the quarter was $6.5 billion, representing a 65% decrease from the previous year. The sectors that garnered the most investment were console and PC games, which combined for 72% of the total, followed by esports at 19%, and technology at 8%. A significant portion of the quarter's M&A value, 56%, was attributed to Sony's acquisition of Bungie for $3.6 billion, which was part of the 66 deals recorded during the period.
