NetEase Acquires Minority Share in Liquid Swords

NetEase has acquired a minority stake in Liquid Swords, a Stockholm-based independent game development studio, as reported by GamesIndustry.biz. The Chinese company has invested in the studio, although the exact amount remains undisclosed. Founded in 2020 by Christofer Sundberg, the founder of Avalanche Studios and director of the first Just Cause game, Liquid Swords is currently developing its debut project, an unannounced open-world AAA title. The investment will support the development of this title, as well as the studio's plans to expand its team and relocate to a new office space. According to Sundberg, "NetEase Games has been extremely supportive from the start, believing in our high ambitions and quality-driven approach to game development. We are delighted to have them as our partners and, with their support, we can start realizing our studio's vision." Simon Zhu, president of global partnerships and investments at NetEase Games, added: "We believe in Liquid Swords' creativity and share their passion for creating open-world games and experiences. They have assembled a strong, experienced team, and we are excited to partner with them as they embark on creating something remarkable for gamers worldwide."
