Frontier Developments announced a landmark set of financial results in its June trading update, highlighting a dramatic rise in profitability and a strong outlook for its future projects. The company reported that adjusted operating profit for the fiscal year 2026 climbed by an impressive 62 percent, reaching £21.4 million – the highest figure the studio has ever recorded. This surge in earnings reflects a combination of solid market demand for its flagship titles, disciplined expense control, and the benefit of larger tax and expenditure credits that the firm was able to capture during the year.
The UK‑based developer explained that, even when the one‑off £3.9 million gain from the sale of publishing rights in the prior financial year is stripped out, the adjusted operating profit more than doubled on a year‑over‑year basis. In other words, the core business performance alone was sufficient to drive a dramatic improvement in the bottom line, underscoring the resilience and scalability of Frontier’s operating model.
Revenue also grew robustly, with total sales up 16 percent to £104.8 million. The bulk of this increase can be traced to the continued success of several key franchises, most notably Jurassic World Evolution 3, Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo. These titles have maintained strong player engagement and have generated steady streams of new purchases, expansions, and in‑game micro‑transactions, all of which have contributed to the top‑line growth. Operating profit, which includes the impact of a one‑off transitional tax credit of £4.4 million, expanded by 97 percent to £25.0 million.
Frontier highlighted that this figure reflects not only the underlying strength of its trading performance but also the strategic use of tax incentives that helped to boost profitability in the reporting period. In addition to the financial highlights, the company disclosed several important leadership changes.
Dan Lazarides was appointed chief marketing officer in the previous month, bringing fresh perspective to the studio’s branding and market outreach efforts. Meanwhile, founder and president David Braben announced that he will transition to a non‑executive director role on 1 October 2026, while retaining his titles as president and founder during the transition.
Braben’s move is intended to free him to focus on broader strategic oversight and to support the executive team in steering the company’s long‑term vision. Frontier also revealed a strategic partnership with Disney, signing an agreement to develop and publish a new game that will draw on Disney’s extensive portfolio of intellectual property.
This collaboration is expected to broaden the studio’s audience and open new revenue streams, leveraging Disney’s global brand recognition alongside Frontier’s proven game‑development expertise. Looking ahead, the studio has a busy pipeline. Planet Zoo 2 is slated for release on 13 October 2026, promising to build on the original’s strong community and add fresh features, animals, and gameplay mechanics. In the same vein, the Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch title is set to launch before the close of FY27, expanding Frontier’s presence in the tabletop‑to‑video‑game niche and tapping into the loyal Warhammer fan base.
Beyond these headline releases, Frontier is advancing a new content management system (CMS) game built around its own intellectual property. The project is described as being “in full development and on track,” with the ambition to deliver roughly one CMS‑style title each year. This strategy is aimed at diversifying the company’s portfolio and creating a steady cadence of releases that can sustain player interest and revenue over time.
CEO Jo Cooke summed up the year’s achievements, stating: “FY26 was a landmark year for Frontier. We delivered record financial performance, demonstrated the strength of our CMS strategy, and continued to invest in the world‑class franchises our players love, supporting vibrant communities and long‑term engagement across our portfolio. With a strong balance sheet, a talented team, and an exciting roadmap ahead, we are well positioned to deliver sustainable growth, enduring player value, and long‑term returns for our stakeholders.” President David Braben added his perspective, expressing pride in the company’s progress since its founding in 1994 and confidence in the leadership team: “I am immensely proud of what our talented teams have achieved together since I founded Frontier, and excited about the opportunities ahead.
I have tremendous confidence in Jo as CEO to build on Frontier’s strong foundations and deliver long‑term success, together with the excellent leadership team. This transition allows me to concentrate on what I can do to help that journey, including oversight of our games, and I look forward to continuing to support Frontier and Jo in the years to come.” Overall, Frontier Developments’ FY26 results illustrate a powerful combination of product excellence, fiscal discipline, and strategic partnerships that together have set the stage for continued expansion and innovation in the highly competitive gaming market.
