Keywords Studios has announced the creation of FreeAnimal, a consolidated organisation that brings together seven of its previously independent creative agencies to act as a single, streamlined partner for video‑game developers, publishers, and brand owners. The move is intended to simplify the client experience by offering a one‑stop shop for a broad spectrum of marketing, production, and creative services while still preserving the specialised expertise each agency has cultivated over the years.

The FreeAnimal collective is composed of the creative powerhouses Ichi, KWM, Fire Without Smoke and Gnet, together with the media‑production studios TrailerFarm, Maverick and Big Farmer. These entities are spread across key industry hubs—including Los Angeles, London, Brighton, Montreal and Quebec—providing the new group with a truly global footprint. By linking the capabilities of these geographically diverse teams, FreeAnimal can deliver consistent, high‑quality output regardless of where a client’s project originates or where its audience resides. All seven firms posted coordinated announcements on LinkedIn, signalling the start of a new chapter in which they will operate under the FreeAnimal name.

While the branding and organisational structure have changed, existing contracts with current clients remain intact, ensuring continuity of service. At the same time, the newly formed agency will be able to tap into the combined talent pool for future projects, allowing it to match the right specialists to each unique challenge. "Collectively, we work with the world's most ambitious gaming brands," said John Rosenberg, Global Head of FreeAnimal. "By fusing seven agencies' perspectives, geographies, and experiences from across the games industry, we've created a wildly effective creative organisation that combines boutique strike teams with global scale." Rosenberg further explained the agency's guiding philosophy: "At FreeAnimal we simply call the approach The Right Team for Every Game, bringing together the right specialists, at the right time, to solve the right challenge for every client." The formation of FreeAnimal fits into Keywords Studios' broader growth strategy.

Founded in 1998 as an outsourcing specialist, Keywords began expanding beyond its original focus in 2014 with the acquisition of voice‑production studio Liquid Violet. Since that first purchase, the company has amassed a portfolio of roughly 70 subsidiaries, covering a wide range of services such as audio engineering, art creation, localisation, quality assurance (both functional and compliance), software engineering, player support, trailer production, marketing, and data analytics.

Recent acquisitions illustrate Keywords' ambition to deepen its capabilities in both development and marketing. In 2024 the group added Certain Affinity, a co‑developer of the Halo franchise, and Wushu Studios, a work‑for‑hire studio that provides end‑to‑end production services.

Earlier in the year Keywords also merged two of its public‑relations outfits—Fortyseven Communications and Indigo Pearl—following the opening of a new Fortyseven office in London. These moves demonstrate a clear intent to build a vertically integrated ecosystem that can support a game from concept through launch and beyond. FreeAnimal’s creation is more than a simple re‑branding exercise; it reflects a strategic effort to align creative talent with the increasingly complex demands of modern game marketing.

Today’s titles often require coordinated campaigns that blend cinematic trailers, influencer outreach, community management, performance marketing, and in‑game event design. By housing all of these functions under one umbrella, FreeAnimal can ensure that messaging stays coherent, timelines are tightly managed, and budgets are optimised. Moreover, the agency’s global presence allows it to tailor campaigns to regional preferences while maintaining a unified brand voice. For instance, a launch in North America might emphasise high‑octane trailer content produced by TrailerFarm in Los Angeles, whereas a European rollout could leverage Gnet’s expertise in localisation and cultural adaptation from its London office.

Meanwhile, Ichi and KWM can contribute their deep understanding of consumer psychology and brand storytelling to craft compelling narratives that resonate across markets. Clients can also benefit from the "right team" philosophy, which promises that every project will be staffed by the most appropriate mix of specialists. If a publisher needs a quick, high‑impact teaser, the agency can draw on Maverick’s rapid‑turnaround video production crew.

If a game requires extensive community engagement and social‑media strategy, Big Farmer’s seasoned community managers can take the lead. This flexible, modular approach reduces the friction often associated with coordinating multiple vendors and helps ensure that creative output is both timely and on‑brand.

In summary, FreeAnimal represents Keywords Studios' latest step toward consolidating its fragmented creative assets into a single, cohesive entity capable of delivering end‑to‑end marketing solutions for the gaming industry. By uniting seven distinct agencies under one name, the group promises greater efficiency, broader expertise, and a more seamless client experience, all while retaining the boutique‑level craftsmanship that made each of the original firms successful. As the gaming market continues to evolve, FreeAnimal aims to be the partner that can adapt quickly, think globally, and execute with the precision required to make any game stand out in a crowded marketplace.
