Frontier Developments announced a landmark set of financial results in its latest June trading update, highlighting a dramatic uplift in profitability and revenue across its portfolio. The company reported that adjusted operating profit for the fiscal year 2026 climbed 62 percent, reaching a record‑high £21.4 million – the strongest figure ever posted by the studio since its inception.
This surge was driven by a combination of strong market demand for its flagship titles, disciplined expense control, and an advantageous increase in tax and expenditure credits that the firm was able to capture. When the numbers are stripped of one‑off items, the picture becomes even more impressive.
Frontier noted that, excluding a one‑time £3.9 million gain that stemmed from the sale of publishing rights in the previous financial year, the adjusted operating profit more than doubled on a year‑over‑year basis. In other words, the core operating performance alone would have produced a growth rate well beyond the headline 62 percent, underscoring the resilience of the business model and the effectiveness of its strategic initiatives. Total revenue also saw a healthy rise, expanding 16 percent to £104.8 million. The bulk of this increase can be traced to continued strong sales of Jurassic World Evolution 3, as well as sustained consumer enthusiasm for the Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo series.
Both franchises have built vibrant, long‑lasting communities, and their downloadable content, expansions, and seasonal events have contributed significantly to the top line. The company’s ability to monetize these ecosystems through ongoing updates and micro‑transactions has become a reliable engine of recurring income. Operating profit, which includes the impact of a one‑off transitional tax credit of £4.4 million, grew an impressive 97 percent to £25.0 million. Frontier explained that this figure reflects not only the underlying strength of its trading performance but also the beneficial effect of the temporary tax credit, which boosted the bottom line for the reporting period.
Beyond the numbers, Frontier disclosed several important organisational changes. Dan Lazarides was appointed chief marketing officer in the preceding month, bringing fresh perspective to the studio’s branding and customer‑engagement strategies. Meanwhile, founder and long‑time president David Braben will step down from his executive duties on 1 October 2026, transitioning to a non‑executive director role. Braben will retain his title as president and continue to provide strategic guidance, while CEO Jo Cooke will assume full responsibility for day‑to‑day leadership.
Strategically, the studio is advancing its long‑term roadmap with a high‑profile partnership with Disney. Under the new agreement, Frontier will develop and publish a brand‑new title that leverages Disney’s extensive portfolio of intellectual property. The collaboration is expected to broaden Frontier’s audience reach and diversify its revenue streams. In terms of upcoming releases, Frontier confirmed that Planet Zoo 2 is slated for launch on 13 October 2026, promising to build on the original’s success with enhanced simulation depth, richer animal behaviours, and expanded park‑building tools.
Additionally, the studio is targeting a release of Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch before the close of FY27, adding a tactical, narrative‑driven experience to its catalogue. A key pillar of Frontier’s growth strategy is its commitment to a new content‑management‑system (CMS) game line built around its own intellectual property. The first title in this series is already in full development and remains on schedule, with the company aiming to ship roughly one CMS‑focused game each year. This approach is designed to create a steady pipeline of fresh experiences while capitalising on the studio’s expertise in simulation and management gameplay.
CEO Jo Cooke summed up the year’s achievements, stating: “FY26 was a landmark year for Frontier. We delivered record financial performance, demonstrated the strength of our CMS strategy, and continued to invest in the world‑class franchises our players love, supporting vibrant communities and long‑term engagement across our portfolio. With a strong balance sheet, a talented team, and an exciting roadmap ahead, we are well positioned to deliver sustainable growth, enduring player value, and long‑term returns for our stakeholders.” President David Braben added his perspective, noting: “I am immensely proud of what our talented teams have achieved together since I founded Frontier in 1994, and excited about the opportunities ahead.
I have tremendous confidence in Jo as CEO to build on Frontier's strong foundations and deliver long‑term success, together with the excellent leadership team. This transition allows me to concentrate on what I can do to help that journey, including oversight of our games, and I look forward to continuing to support Frontier and Jo in the years to come.” Overall, Frontier Developments’ FY26 results paint a picture of a company that has successfully balanced creative ambition with fiscal discipline, positioning itself for continued expansion in the competitive gaming market while maintaining a clear focus on community‑driven titles and strategic partnerships.
