Frontier Developments has announced a set of record-breaking financial results in its latest June trading update, highlighting a remarkable improvement in profitability and revenue across its portfolio of simulation and theme‑park games. The company disclosed that adjusted operating profit for the fiscal year 2026 climbed 62 percent, reaching £21.4 million – the highest adjusted operating profit the firm has ever recorded. This impressive figure reflects a combination of strong market demand for its flagship titles, disciplined expense control, and the benefit of larger tax and expenditure credits that the studio was able to capture during the year. In addition to the headline profit number, Frontier pointed out that the adjusted operating profit would have more than doubled on a year‑on‑year basis if it were not for a one‑off £3.9 million gain that stemmed from the sale of publishing rights in the previous financial year.
By stripping out that irregular item, the underlying operating performance still shows a dramatic upward trajectory, underscoring the resilience of the business model and the effectiveness of the management team’s strategic initiatives. Revenue also saw a healthy uplift, rising 16 percent to £104.8 million. The bulk of this growth was driven by continued strong sales of Jurassic World Evolution 3, as well as sustained enthusiasm for the Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo franchises, which have built large, dedicated fan communities and generate recurring income through expansions, downloadable content and in‑game microtransactions.
The increase in top‑line earnings demonstrates that Frontier’s focus on expanding and deepening its core IPs is paying off, while also attracting new players to its ecosystem. Operating profit before adjustments surged 97 percent to £25.0 million. The company explained that this rise reflects not only the solid underlying trading performance but also a one‑off transitional tax credit of £4.4 million that was recognised in the accounts.
Even after removing the tax credit, the operating profit margin improved significantly, indicating that the business is becoming more efficient and that cost‑control measures are delivering tangible results. Leadership changes were also announced as part of the update. Dan Lazarides was appointed chief marketing officer in the previous month, bringing fresh perspective to the studio’s global branding and community outreach efforts. Meanwhile, founder David Braben will transition to a non‑executive director role on 1 October 2026, while retaining his titles as president and founder.
Braben’s move is framed as a strategic shift that will allow him to focus on high‑level oversight of the company’s game portfolio and long‑term vision, rather than day‑to‑day operational responsibilities. Looking ahead, Frontier disclosed a significant partnership with Disney, under which the studio will develop and publish a new title that leverages Disney’s extensive intellectual property catalog. This agreement is expected to broaden Frontier’s audience reach and diversify its revenue streams, positioning the company to benefit from Disney’s global brand equity.
The upcoming product pipeline includes the launch of Planet Zoo 2 on 13 October 2026, a sequel that promises expanded wildlife management features, deeper simulation mechanics, and enhanced visual fidelity. In addition, the studio confirmed that Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch will be released before the close of FY27, adding a new entry to the popular Warhammer franchise and further cementing Frontier’s reputation for delivering high‑quality, narrative‑driven experiences. Frontier is also advancing a new content‑management‑system (CMS) game built around its own intellectual property. The project is described as being "in full development and on track," with an ambitious goal of delivering, on average, one CMS‑style title each year.
This strategy reflects the company’s desire to create a steady pipeline of internally generated content that can be monetised through ongoing updates and community‑driven expansions. CEO Jo Cooke summed up the year by calling FY26 a "landmark year" for Frontier.
She highlighted the record financial performance, the successful execution of the CMS strategy, and the continued investment in world‑class franchises that nurture vibrant player communities and foster long‑term engagement. Cooke emphasized that a strong balance sheet, a talented workforce, and a compelling roadmap position the studio well to sustain growth, deliver lasting value to players, and generate solid returns for shareholders. President David Braben added his perspective, expressing pride in the achievements of the teams he helped build since founding Frontier in 1994.
He voiced confidence in Jo Cooke’s leadership and the broader executive team’s ability to build on the solid foundations laid over the past three decades. Braben noted that his transition to a non‑executive role will free him to concentrate on strategic contributions, such as overseeing game development initiatives, and he looks forward to supporting the company’s continued success in the years ahead. Overall, Frontier Developments’ FY26 results paint a picture of a studio that has successfully leveraged its flagship IPs, disciplined financial management, and strategic partnerships to achieve unprecedented profitability. With a robust pipeline of new releases, a promising Disney collaboration, and a clear focus on expanding its CMS game portfolio, the company appears well‑positioned to maintain its upward trajectory and deliver sustained value to both its player base and its investors.
