Industry Mourns the Passing of Sega Europe's Brian Ayers
Brian Ayers, a seasoned product marketing manager at Sega Europe, has sadly passed away at the age of 42. His death occurred on Friday, September 23, after a short battle with illness, as confirmed by a fundraising page established to cover funeral expenses. With a career spanning over nine years, Ayers had worked with several prominent publishers, including a stint as senior product marketing manager at Paradox Interactive and senior brand manager at Capcom. Prior to joining Sega Europe, where he was nearing his one-year anniversary, Ayers spent almost seven years at Konami in various roles. The news of his passing was shared by colleague Ryan King on Twitter, who remembered Ayers as "warm, funny, brilliant, and a huge loss to us all." A fundraising campaign set up by Ayers' friend, Aydogan Mehmet, has received an outpouring of support from the industry, including UKIE, with the total exceeding £8,000, nearly triple the initial goal of £3,000. Mehmet expressed his gratitude, stating he was "totally blown away by everyone's generosity," and described Ayers as a "much loved son, brother, partner, friend, and colleague."
