Life After Armello: League of Geeks Sets Sights on New Horizons

Eleven years have passed since League of Geeks was founded and began developing its debut title, the highly successful Armello. Seven years after Armello's Early Access launch, the Australian studio is now ready to unveil its second title. At EGX, the studio announced a remake of Vic Davis' 2009 cult classic Solium Infernum, scheduled for release in 2023. League of Geeks co-founder Trent Kusters notes that the studio has finally concluded its roadmap for Armello content and features, with over 27 major updates, numerous patches, and several DLCs. Kusters expresses his enthusiasm for moving forward and discussing Solium Infernum, which was a significant inspiration for Armello. The studio acquired the IP and is now working on the remake, aiming to balance its staff and projects after overcoming previous setbacks. With a team of around 55-56 people, League of Geeks has two games in development, including Solium Infernum, both with identical budgets and resources. The studio has learned from its past experiences, including a failed partnership with Private Division, and is now supported by the games fund Kowloon Nights. Kusters emphasizes the importance of self-publishing and the benefits of working with Kowloon Nights, which allows the studio to maintain control over its projects. League of Geeks is committed to building long-term support for its games, similar to Armello, and is focused on creating stable IPs with cross-media potential. The studio's goal is to establish itself as a 'triple-I' studio, competing with top-tier indie games in terms of production values while maintaining a relatively small team size. With the support of the Digital Games Tax Offset in Australia, League of Geeks is well-positioned to continue growing and developing new projects, including the upcoming Solium Infernum remake.
