Winners of the 2022 Game Devs of Color Expo Grant Awards Unveiled

The 2022 Game Devs of Color Expo concluded with the announcement of its grant award winners. Since 2019, the event has been providing financial support to underrepresented game developers. According to Catt Small, co-organizer of the Game Devs of Color Expo, the event has contributed to a shift in the industry towards offering more unrestricted grants to creators from underrepresented communities. The grant winners will receive funding ranging from $15,000 to $25,000. The awardees include: Geneva Heyward, lead developer of Skate and Date, a rhythm-based dating sim set in the world of roller derby; Tristan Barona, creator of Kindfolx, a real-time deck-building roguelike; Split Fate Studios, the duo behind High Elo Girls, a coming-of-age visual novel inspired by esports; and Achimostawinan Games, developer of Hill Agency: PURITYdecay, a narrative-driven detective game centered around indigenous themes.
