EA and Marvel Unite to Develop AAA Iron Man Game with Creative Freedom

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has been a dominant force in cinema and television for nearly 15 years, with its vast array of interconnected stories, characters, and franchises. Following the success of the PlayStation Spider-Man games and major partnerships with AAA studios, it seemed likely that Marvel would attempt to replicate this success in the video game industry. However, according to Bill Rosemann, VP and creative director of Marvel Games, such an approach would be detrimental to the company's overall goals. Instead, Marvel is giving developers the freedom to tell their own stories, without being constrained by the need to fit into a larger narrative universe. This approach is being taken with the new Iron Man game, which is being developed by EA Motive. The game's executive producer, Olivier Proulx, explains that the team is being given the freedom to create its own version of Tony Stark and the Iron Man universe, using what Marvel calls 'building blocks' to ensure that the game feels like a genuine Marvel experience. The game is still in pre-production, but the team is keen to stress that it will be a single-player, action-adventure game with a strong narrative focus. Despite the trend towards service-based and online experiences, the team believes that there is still a place for great single-player games, and that this approach is the best way to do justice to the character of Tony Stark. With the Marvel Cinematic Universe casting a long shadow over the game industry, the team is aware that it will be compared to other iterations of the character, but it is focused on creating a game that will be a love letter to the character and a unique take on the Iron Man universe.
