The news of the layoffs surfaced when Riendeau announced her redundancy on Twitter, stating, 'It's been an honor to serve as editor-in-chief of Fanbyte, and I believe we achieved something special. I am now seeking new opportunities.' Employees who were laid off described the cuts as sudden and unexpected on Twitter. Favis expressed her pride in the work she did at Fanbyte, saying, 'I've been let go from Fanbyte. I'm incredibly proud of my accomplishments and the talented people I worked with - it was an honor to be part of the team.' This marks the third instance of layoffs in the games media industry this week, following similar actions by UK-based Future and G4TV, which reportedly laid off 20-30 staff members.
