Applovin Abandons Unity Acquisition Bid
Applovin has withdrawn its proposal to merge with Unity, after the game engine developer decided to proceed with its existing agreement with IronSource. The proposal, which was made last month, would have seen Unity shareholders hold 55% of the combined company's shares. According to Applovin, the potential merger was attractive due to the opportunity to combine its business model and machine learning capabilities with Unity's Create platform, particularly in light of current market challenges. However, after careful consideration, Applovin has decided that remaining an independent market leader is in the best interest of its shareholders and stakeholders. The company intends to continue expanding its platform and gaining market share. The proposed deal was initially put forth on August 9, shortly after Unity announced its merger agreement with IronSource. A key condition of the proposal was that Unity would need to abandon its deal with IronSource in favor of the merger with Applovin. Unity rejected the offer less than a week later, choosing to move forward with its original partnership with IronSource.
