Sony Pledges $3 Million to USC Games' Gerald A. Lawson Endowment

USC Games has revealed that Sony Interactive Entertainment has made a generous donation of $3 million to the Gerald A. Lawson Endowment Fund. Established in collaboration with Take-Two in 2021, this endowment seeks to promote diversity within the gaming and tech sectors by increasing the presence of Black and Indigenous individuals. The funds provided by Sony will be utilized to award over 60 scholarships to deserving students. To commemorate this donation, USC Games and Sony have released a joint announcement video. According to Professor Jim Huntley of USC Interactive Media & Games, the endowment was named after Gerry Lawson, a pioneering Black engineer who made significant contributions to the industry, including the development of interchangeable ROM cartridges for the Fairchild Channel F console. This is not the first major contribution to the fund, as Microsoft also made a donation last August.
