Splitgate Development Comes to a Halt as 1047 Games Unveils New Project
In a recent announcement, 1047 Games, the developer behind Splitgate, revealed that it is ceasing updates for the game and shifting its focus towards a new project. According to the studio, the new title will be set within the same universe as Splitgate and will offer similar gameplay, all while being free-to-play. The decision was made public via Twitter, where 1047 Games explained that it is ending feature development for Splitgate in order to build a new game that meets the expectations of its fans. The studio likened its situation to "bailing water while trying to keep everyone on board happy, and turning the boat into a rocket ship at the same time." Splitgate, a free-to-play multiplayer shooter, initially launched on Steam in May 2019 and gained significant traction, with its open beta attracting two million users in 2021. Last year, 1047 Games secured substantial funding, including $100 million raised over three months, resulting in a $1.5 billion valuation at the time.
