Riot Games Reports No Significant Pay Disparities for Women or Underrepresented Groups

Riot Games, the developer of Valorant, has released its 2021 diversity and inclusion report, highlighting a mixed bag of progress and decline in workforce representation. The report defines underrepresented minorities as individuals who identify as Black or African American, Hispanic, Latinx, Native American, or other underrepresented groups. Notably, the proportion of female new hires increased to 30.4% globally, up from 28% in 2020. However, the percentage of women in leadership roles decreased to 21.7% from 29% in 2019, which the company attributes to a revised definition of leadership that now includes director-level positions and above. Underrepresented minority new hires in the US saw a year-over-year increase to 17.3%, while their representation in leadership roles stood at 14.7%. The report also highlights Riot's efforts to achieve pay equity, stating that there are no statistically significant pay differences between women, underrepresented minorities, and other groups. This progress comes four years after allegations of a toxic work environment and marks a significant step forward for the company, which has been working with a third-party consultant to conduct regular pay equity reviews.
