Microsoft Claims Xbox-Exclusive Call of Duty Would Be Unprofitable

Following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard, Microsoft has stated that making Call of Duty an Xbox exclusive would not be financially viable. In a letter to Brazil's Administrative Council for Economic Defense, the company addressed concerns that it would limit the series to its own systems, stating that an exclusive Call of Duty would need to attract a significant number of players to compensate for the losses incurred by not releasing the game on rival consoles. Microsoft also emphasized that exclusivity would introduce additional costs for each title. The company rejected Sony's suggestion that Call of Duty is a unique category in the market, arguing that it faces strong competition from multiple genres and types of games. Microsoft noted that among the top 20 best-selling console titles of the previous year, only two were Activision Blizzard games, demonstrating that the market is highly competitive. The company also provided several reasons why the Call of Duty franchise will remain multiplatform, including its business strategy of not removing content from players and the dynamic nature of subscription services such as Game Pass and PlayStation Plus.
