Entry-Level Games Industry Jobs Account for Only 5% of 2022 Listings
According to recent findings, a mere 5% of the games industry job openings in 2022 were designated for entry-level candidates. An analysis of 19,458 paid job listings and internships posted on the jobs platform Hitmarker between January and June revealed that the smallest proportion of these positions required zero to one year of experience. Junior roles, which necessitate one to two years of experience, comprised 8.6% of the analyzed job postings. The majority of available positions demanded more substantial experience, with 44.5% being intermediate-level roles requiring two to five years of experience and 41% being senior roles that necessitated more than five years of industry experience. A similar breakdown was observed in the UK, where 5.9% of the 1,893 job postings in the first half of 2022 were entry-level, 9.4% were junior, 46.4% were intermediate, and 38.1% were senior. In contrast, the US had a lower proportion of entry-level jobs, with 3.4% of the 6,822 advertised roles being entry-level, 6.8% junior, 39.7% intermediate, and 50% senior. Notably, the number of entry-level job openings has remained steady, but the proportion of junior roles has decreased since last year, from 11% in the first half of 2021. Conversely, the number of senior job listings has increased, rising from 37.4% in the first half of the previous year.
