Vox Media Implements Company-Wide Layoffs Amid Economic Instability
Vox Media has announced the layoff of 39 employees across the organization, citing economic uncertainty as the primary reason. According to a report by Variety, the layoffs affected various sectors such as recruitment, sales, and publications, including the popular gaming website Polygon. In an internal memo acquired by Variety, Vox Media CEO Jim Bankoff stated that the decision to downsize was prompted by supply chain disruptions leading to reduced marketing and advertising budgets. "We are taking proactive measures to address potential uncertainty by making tough decisions to scale back on lower-priority initiatives or those with reduced staffing requirements in the current environment," Bankoff noted. Vox Media's portfolio includes notable brands like Curbed, The Cut, The Dodo, Eater, Grub Street, Intelligencer, and New York Magazine. Its publishing arm also encompasses NowThis, Polygon, Popsugar, Recode, SB Nation, Seeker, The Strategist, Thrillist, The Verge, Vox, and Vulture. These layoffs come seven months after Vox Media merged with Group Nine Media, a fellow digital media company.
