IGN Unveils Gaming Trends Platform, Illuminating the Industry's Shifts with Mobile, Roblox, and Nostalgia
IGN Entertainment has introduced Gaming Trends, a data-driven insights platform leveraging the company's vast reach to forecast the future of gaming and entertainment. With 500 million monthly visitors across 110 countries, IGN offers an expansive perspective on trending topics. The initial study highlights key findings, including the growing preference for mobile gaming among younger players, with 93% of Gen Alpha and 32% of Millennials favoring mobile devices. The report also explores the impact of Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch's success, the rise of user-generated content in Roblox, and the growing popularity of gaming-related movies and merchandise. Furthermore, the study notes a shift in loyalty from platforms or genres to specific experiences, with younger generations identifying as players of particular games rather than gamers. The findings also indicate a rebound in interest in eSports, particularly one-on-one fighting games, and a growing nostalgia for classic franchises, with 71% of respondents expressing a desire for retro gaming experiences. Additionally, the report touches on the growth of subscription services, the success of new IP, and the anticipation of upcoming games, including Resident Evil: Requiem, Metal Gear Solid Delta, and Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls.
