EA Enlists Fan Support to Keep The Sims Relevant
In a recent conversation, The Sims General Manager Kate Gorman mentioned the phrase 'the speed of pop culture.' This concept refers to the rapid pace at which modern popular culture is evolving, with trends emerging and disappearing quickly. The Sims franchise, which often incorporates current trends into its games, faces the challenge of keeping up with this fast-paced environment. According to Gorman, 'Trends change faster than they ever have. What is popular today might be gone in two weeks.' To address this issue, EA is relying on community creators to help the game stay relevant. The Sims players have been able to create and share content through The Sims Gallery, and the company is introducing a new Creator Program to support these creators. This program includes perks such as the ability to earn money from their creations and have their work featured in 'Creator Kits' that will be distributed by EA. Gorman emphasizes the importance of community creators in helping The Sims keep up with the speed of pop culture. 'If you've got an idea and you're seeing it now, you will be able to help put that in the game and play with it,' she explains. The company is also working on multiple projects, including Project Rene, and plans to engage with the community through The Sims Labs to gather feedback and test new ideas. Additionally, EA is broadening the franchise's reach by remastering MySims games for the Nintendo Switch and developing a movie adaptation with Amazon and MGM. Gorman believes that these efforts will help The Sims continue to evolve and stay relevant in the gaming industry.
