Bridging the Pay Divide: Empowering Women to Expect Higher Salaries
Promoting higher salary expectations among women is crucial to addressing the gender pay gap, according to Tanja Loktionova, founder of Values Value, who presented the findings of the company's annual salary survey at Devcom. The survey, which gathered responses from 1,832 developers worldwide, revealed that women not only earn less than men in almost every discipline but also have lower salary expectations. Loktionova emphasized the need for awareness and transparency in salary discussions, stating that women's expectations are often more in line with men's current average salaries rather than their own desired earnings. The survey found that the largest pay gap exists in marketing and user acquisition, with men earning an average of €65,400 and women earning €38,000. Furthermore, while men's desired salaries exceeded their current earnings, women's desired salaries were often lower than men's current average salaries. Loktionova stressed the importance of spreading awareness and promoting diversity and inclusiveness to support women in salary negotiations. The survey also revealed that hybrid workers are more satisfied with their employment, and staff who receive financial bonuses are less likely to change jobs. Overall, the findings highlight the need for a more equitable and transparent approach to salary discussions in the games industry.
