Empowering Southeast Asian Game Developers through Gamescom Asia

Gamescom Asia is set to take place in Singapore from October 17 to 20, 2024, marking a significant milestone in the event's history. As the first year with all three Gamescom events - Gamescom Asia, Gamescom, and Gamescom Latam - taking place in full force, the show promises to be an exciting platform for Southeast Asian game developers to showcase their talents. With the German Games Industry Association behind the wheel as the owner of the Gamescom brand globally, and Koelnmesse as the co-organiser, the event aims to bring together the fragmented Southeast Asian gaming market. Project director Daria La Valle, who has been working on Gamescom Asia since 2019, shares her insights on the event's journey, its objectives, and what attendees can expect in 2024. La Valle highlights the importance of Gamescom Asia as a platform for Southeast Asian developers to connect with publishers and investors from around the world, citing the event's Invest Circle and pitch competition as key initiatives. The event will feature a hybrid format, with both B2B and B2C components, and will include a range of activities, such as esports events, indie game showcases, and a cosplay competition. With over 40,000 attendees and 150 exhibitors expected, Gamescom Asia 2024 is poised to be a major event in the region's gaming calendar. La Valle also discusses the challenges faced by game developers in Southeast Asia, including localisation and the fragmentation of the industry, and how Gamescom Asia can help address these issues. As the event continues to grow and evolve, La Valle's vision is for Gamescom Asia to become a leading platform for the region's gaming industry, providing a springboard for developers to shine and connect with the global gaming community.
