Epic Games Unveils Ambitious Plans for Unreal Editor for Fortnite
Epic Games has expressed satisfaction with the progress of Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN) since its launch nearly a year ago. In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, Saxs Persson, Fortnite ecosystem executive VP, shared key statistics, including 15,000 creators publishing 80,000 islands, which have been tried out by 130 million players, resulting in $320 million in engagement-based payouts to creators. Persson noted that the daily number of new islands published has increased from 50 to 600. Epic has announced several new additions to UEFN, including the integration of MetaHuman Creator and Animator, cloth creation tools, and a roadmap of upcoming features. The company is also excited about incorporating Lego Fortnite into UEFN, allowing players to publish their own games using the Lego brand. Persson highlighted the potential of Lego Fortnite's physics sandbox and the importance of pre-moderation to ensure high-quality content. Epic aims to establish UEFN as a capable game development tool, committing to use it exclusively for creating new seasons of Fortnite Battle Royale content starting in late 2025.
