UK Gaming Market Sees Decline in January, Despite Strong Showings from EA Sports FC and The Last of Us Part 2

In the UK, a total of 2.47 million games were sold during January, marking a 3% decrease from the same period last year, based on data from GSD that tracks physical and digital sales from major third-party publishers. The top-selling game was EA Sports FC 24, outperforming its predecessor FIFA 23. The Last of Us Part 2: Remastered debuted at No.2, benefiting from a £10 upgrade offer for PS4 owners, and sold two and a half times more copies than The Last of Us Part 1 in its opening weeks. New releases like Tekken 8 also fared well, with a stronger launch than Street Fighter 6. Console sales dropped 19% year-on-year, with all major platforms experiencing declines. However, accessory sales rose by nearly 10%, led by Xbox and PlayStation controllers.
