Ubisoft Unveils Revamped Subscription Service, Aims to Revolutionize Gaming Experience
The gaming landscape is evolving with Ubisoft's rebranded subscription service, Ubisoft+ Premium, offering day-one releases, premium editions, and rewards. Additionally, the company has launched Ubisoft+ Classics on PC, providing access to a catalog of popular games like Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six: Siege for a lower monthly fee. According to Philippe Tremblay, director of subscriptions at Ubisoft, the move is a response to changing consumer behavior, with millions of subscribers having played over half a billion hours of gameplay in the last four years. While some gamers may sign up to trial a single game, others become long-term subscribers, and the company is seeing growth in this sector, with October last year being the biggest month in Ubisoft+ history. The industry is debating the potential of subscription models in gaming, but Ubisoft believes it offers tremendous value, with access to thousands of dollars' worth of games, premium editions, and rewards, all playable across multiple devices. The company is also exploring streaming, having acquired the streaming rights to Activision Blizzard's games, which will be added to Ubisoft+ in the future. As the gaming industry continues to shift, Ubisoft is committed to providing gamers with choices, whether that's purchasing games outright or subscribing to a service, and is seeing new players join the fold, with one in ten Ubisoft+ subscribers being brand new to the company's games. However, the company acknowledges the challenge of subscription fatigue, which is a part of the consumer reality, and is working to address this by offering low-commitment monthly subscriptions and a range of options to suit different gaming preferences.
